I saw Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence last night. It wasn't at all what I expected, which of course, is what I expected. The melding of CG and traditional animation was at times breathtaking (although it didn't always work), and the action sequences -- when they came -- were impressive. It was more talky than I would have liked, but when it all fell into place, I was deeply moved. One note: if the first movie was the Major's, this one is clearly Batou's.
That all being said, I'm deeply grateful the TV series exists, because it's my clear favorite out of the various realizations of the idea. There's not enough time in a twenty-two minute episode for a ponderous shot filled with lots of esoteric quoting :). But maybe I'm just... oooh shiny! 10:52:50 AM ()
