Things they aren't kidding about
Checking in no later than 30 minutes ahead of time. A year ago, I got there with 28 minutes and just wasn't able to check my bags. Wednesday we got there with 28 minutes to spare, and got put on standby. Since we were connecting through Dallas to El Paso, and would have to wait on standby in Dallas if we managed to make it out of Austin, and since it was the day before Thanksgiving, we chose the only sane option:
We drove like the wind.
Nine hours later, we made it, totally exhausted. I think there's no question the standby option -- if it even had worked -- would have taken longer.
(And, no, we weren't trying to cut it close, crap just happened.)
(Basically, we rented a car one way, and are planning on using our return tickets back.) 12:13:33 AM ()
