The Apple campus employee store is filled with delightful toys; I just picked up a TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter. These suckers are useful when on trips because rentals cars with tape decks (or, for that matter, audio line-in feeds) are pretty rare.
I previously had an iTrip, which I purchased on my last trip out here. The iTrip is stylistically very nice: when it's attached to the iPod, it looks like a natural extension, and it recharges directly from the iPod's firewire. Unfortunately, it also requires you to play an audio file on the iPod to change the radio channel, which turns out to be punishingly painful (especially since the iPod will happily play through all of the "songs" in the radio station playlist).
This thing, on the other hand, has the frequency tuner right on the device, and seems to also have a stronger signal than the iTrip. (Cupertino seems to be toxically crowded with radio waves, so strong signal and easy channel changing are essential.) I mean, yeah, it's still got some static, and t remains to be seen how long the two AAA batteries last, but so far so good.
I'm also seriously eyeballing the EyeHome, a digital media player for your TV that sucks content off your Mac, and which has hidef video and audio outputs. Oh mama! Then I'd have to run a gigabit ethernet connection out to the living room :). 8:16:34 PM ()
