When I dropped by Dragon's Lair on Saturday, I discovered a nice surprise: Planetary #16. I got hooked on this series a few months back (when the one-off special with Bat-"He's your special bat-friend"-man was lauded over on Boing Boing). It's been laying fallow for over a year, but now it's supposedly back on a bi-monthly schedule. I can't wait!
I also can't wait for the rest of Transmetropolitan to be released in trade paperback form. Warren Ellis is my grouchy favorite. 9:49:34 AM ()

Java now using OpenGL for 2D rendering. This is pretty fascinating; they've got a whole pipeline for drawing 2D via OpenGL, which even accelerates things like image rotation & resizing. You could make some pretty darn smooth sprite based animations in Java now, if this works as advertised. (This is very similar to Keynote's technique for smooth animation, although we don't restrict ourselves to a 2D API.) 9:43:24 AM ()
