I went and saw the UT Women's Resource Center-sponsored production of The Vagina Monologues, done as part of the V-Day. Eve Ensler, who wrote the monologues, provides a license for groups to produce The Vagina Monologues as a non-profit fundraising opportunity. The proceeds go to organizations that work to eradicate violence against women.
I'd never seen TVM before, and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm very proud of my sweetie, who is a co-director of the Women's Resource Center, and produced the show. She's been pretty crazy busy these past several weeks, but her hard work -- and the hard work of her cast, crew, volunteers, and director -- really paid off: the show really shined. It was funny, and moving, and heartfelt, and they should feel proud of what they did.
If you live in the Austin area, there are still two more shows: one on Sunday the 22nd at 3pm, and one next Friday the 27th at 8pm (doors open half an hour earlier). They're at Burdine on the UT campus. The proceeds go to help two local charities (SafePlace and Settlement Home) and to help the national V-Day organization help the women of Juarez.
I highly recommend checking it out!
