Considering that the CIA sold crack cocaine for years to fund its efforts in destabilizing third world governments, the Superbowl ads linking drugs to terrorism from the Partnership for a Drug Free America is pretty rich.

(See also the DOJ report on the CIA-crack-contra controversy. I love the web.)

Geez, I'm feeling pissy and political lately. I wonder why? While we're at it, let's talk about the State of the Union address, which includes:

"The last time we met in this chamber, the mothers and daughters of Afghanistan were captives in their own homes, forbidden from working or going to school. Today women are free, and are part of Afghanistan's new government. And we welcome the new Minister of Women's Affairs, Doctor Sima Samar."

When was the last time that women in Afghanistan were free? Oh, yeah, it was when Afghanistan was communist. Who fucked them over? Oh, yeah, it was us. (If you live outside the United States, you can read that as "US" instead.)  5:27:44 PM

Bush unveils $2.13 trillion budget

"The president, in a message accompanying the budget, said his administration was prepared to do whatever it took to win the war against terrorism."

More to the point, this budget increases military spending at the expense of nearly every infrastructure and social program imaginable. It provides the charming Texan "no service so small it can't be screwed further" approach to social services to protect a tax cut that only substantially affects rich bastards who don't need it. (Yes, I live in Texas.)

Terrorism isn't just Osama -- it's this administration sacrificing our future for back-room deals and the old boy network. Enron's collapse and the associated 401k collapse is a class terrorism that will have far greater impact than a bomb or a bioweapon.

Fuck you, W.  2:50:38 PM

I've fussed with the width of the masthead image. It should be readable (it's still a little wide) on an 800x600 screen. But, then again, I hope most of my vast and unknowable audience probably runs at at least 1024x768.

And when you get right down to it, I just can't get that worked up over it.  2:05:11 PM
